“The Characters” by the ancient Greek philosopher Theophrastus
is a book written two thousand three hundred years ago,
which has reached us in several editions over the years thanks
to the translation from the ancient Greek by Prof. Bogdan
Bogdanov, who has made a number of adaptations to the
translation to make it understandable in our modern times.
The book is a collection of short, observational descriptions of human
relationships, divided into 30 character types. The text makes us
laugh and resonates with our times because of its extremely honest,
insightful and direct observation of the nuances of human relationships.
Over the past 2 years, students from the Animation Cinema Programme
at NBU have interpreted various characters in 16 animated miniatures.
