ANIMATION DRAWINGS
BY ANIMATED CINEMA STUDENTS FROM
NEW BULGARIAN UNIVERSITY
The exhibition presents drawings by students from Animated Film Department at New Bulgarian University. The effort was to show work of as
many students as possible so that they could compare their drawings with that of their colleagues, which in turn would serve as a stimulus for their further artistic development. Semester exercises, exams and independent works are presented mainly from the courses “Artistic Possibilities of the Image in Animated Cinema”, “Animation Stylistics”, “Creation of an Animated Film Character” and “Direction of Animated Film” with lecturer Ph.D. Pencho Kunchev. The aim of the training in these courses is to develop the students’ drawing abilities, their imagination and skills to create their own original projects and to successfully handle both classical and
digital drawing techniques. Special attention is also paid to the creation of the storyboard as an important prerequisite for the successful realization
of the future film. Artistic Possibilities of the Animated Film Image

EXHIBITION 20 years ANNIVERSARY WFAF VARNA
GRAND PRIX WINNERS POSTERS
The exhibition presents posters of films awarded the Grand Prize at the World Festival of Animated Film in Varna since its creation in 1979 until 2023. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to see posters of such masterpieces of animated cinema as “Allegro non troppo” by Bruno Bozzetto from Italy, winner of the Grand Prize “Golden Kuker” at the first festival in 1979, “Time Out” (1985) by Priit Pärn from the USSR , “Parade” (1987) by Jerzy Kucia from Poland, “Love Games” (2013) by Joung Yumi from Korea or “Erlking” (2016) by Georges Schwizgebel from Switzerland.
Arranged by year, these posters also represent part of the festival’s history. It was not easy to find each of them, as some of the authors of the films have already passed away. Fortunately, the majority of award winners submitted posters for their films. The Quay Brothers created four superb masterpieces of poster art for their film “Maska” (2011) especially for our exhibition. The exhibition also shows the importance of the poster as a kind of face of the film work, presenting in a synthesized, but at the same time mysterious way, its artistic and dramatic appearance. The works shown represent the glorious past and vitality of the festival, which is a prerequisite for its further successful development and establishment as one of the significant international forums of animation art.
